Project 8:

Making Connections

Funded by JANET (the high-speed network for the UK research and education community), now part of JISC, the project sought to make connections between music and dance students in three geographically distanced universities: John Moores University (LJMU) in Liverpool, Napier University in Edinburgh and Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.  The project has explored how connections can be made between musicians and dancers in distanced spaces brought together by Visimeet technology. The musical composition is informed by the paintings of Piet Mondrian, and inspired the costumes and the stage design.

The work was performed synchronously on 21 November 2014 In Edinburgh, Liverpool and Fort Lauderdale, as well as via the Internet with Visimeet in Chicago, Texas and Corfu.

Subsequently, it was invited to be a part of the Fifth European Network Performing Arts Production (NPAP) Workshop at The Royal Academy of Music, London/UK, 4-5 May 2015.
